Side note to your piece here is the win for Zohran Mamdani here in NYC. It's wild to watch the mainstream Democratic structure show it's true colors. Those who'd banish Al Franktn rush to get behind Cuomo. OOPS. Then pondering if being corruption adjacent a la Eric Adams would be too career destroying. Of course, my trusted Dems would rather see a monster in office than SoCiALiSm. Wondering which planet Curtis Sliwa can win on. True fking colors.
Totally agree that Biden ushered in Trump2 with his vile wars. It worries me to see Democrats correct in their criticism of Trump and then applauding Kamala and Biden, whose disgraceful admin she was a key part of. How long will this oscillation between two evils continue? They should be locked in a room with Ferlinghetti's Bird With Two Right Wings played loudly on a loop.
Utter concurrence, madam. I remember Biden smirking proudly as the Senate Judiciary Committee humiliated Anita Hill in 1989 and wonder, “What exactly is wrong with you?” when I see people like Jo Jo From Jerz (who, to her credit, is fervently anti-MAGA, and has billions of subscribers) rhapsodizing about Biden. And Harris! I’d have voted for a pailful of sick before Trump, but a viable candidate? Jesus H. Christ.
I dare to be heartened by the NYC mayoral candidate, though I’m confident the Democrates will find a way to subvert him.
I know too little of them to comment, madam. I do know that the Democrats have to nominate someone electable. Gays (Buttigieg) and women don’t sit right with the substantially moronic American electorate. I do like AOC very much — and acknowledge she wouldn’t have a prayer. Murkans don’t know what socialism means, but they know they’re against it. Oh, and Borowitz was joking. :-)
I've found that it's impossible to underestimate people. Of course, I always kind of enjoy it when someone fails to...get that I'm being ironic. The British, as a race, are not very good at irony, though they fervently imagine otherwise.
I share your hope and commend your honest, rational and accurate assessment of the current situation.
During the first term impeachment of Trump, the Republicans, all bar 1, in the Senate contravened their Constitutional obligation to vote, by conscience, on the facts rather than on party lines. That should have seen the end of them.
That a misogynist of the worst kind, liar, fraudster and complete scoundrel can be elected to the office of POTUS is scandalous enough, in itself. That it can happen twice must surely indicate an unholy sickness within the American population.
When I see what is happening, I continually have to ask myself of the Republican Congress men and women and their Senators: "Have none of you got a conscience and an intellect that allows you to recognise what is humane and decent and, at the very least, reminds you of your obligation to represent *all* citizens, not just the ones you favour?" Watching vision of arrests and deportations and assault on unarmed and peaceful protestors, I also have to ask of the Police, the National Guard and the Military: "Why do you accept what are illegitimate, inhumane and human rights violating orders and carry them out? How many of you have awards and medals for bravery and honour and of those of you who do, how can you possibly reconcile that with what you are ordered to do now?"
After WWII ended, many who carried out brutal and indescribable abuse of other human beings - innocent human beings at that - would claim: "I was just following orders." Oh, well that makes persecution, torture, maiming, killing and any amount of brutlity o.k. then, does it?
What has happened to the 'real heroes and heroines' - those who will *not* follow orders that deny humanity and demand obscene and unforgivable victimisation of helpless and mostly the weakest and poorest and least offensive members of society - who incidentally are often those who do most for least and take the tasks that the better off despise, despite depending on them.

Even Bernie Sanders (sans Israel) would have been better. Maybe. What do you make of Jill Stein and Cornel West?

Yeah, in my comment reply.

I’ve reposted to make it more explicit.
What has been made more explicit, madam? I am old and easily confused now, and have lost my looks. Please do not go too quickly for me.
That Andy Borowitz authorship indicates it's satire. So I reposted my note adding the word "satire" for anyone who missed it.

I am sickened to my core.
As who could fail to be?
