When Will the Fourth Come Forth?
which republican will be the first to cease to cower
(or, more accurately, the fourth
after cheney and romney and kinzinger)?
Come forth now, noble fourth
as came the brave little boy

and shout

vengeful
fascist
imbecile

and is not pushing the country
ever nearer the precipice’s edge?
who will be the fourth to realize
how very little it profits one
to save his or her political career
if he or she loses his soul?
who will dare to be the straw
that breaks the lunatic king’s back?

the martyrs of the white rose
guillotined for urging their fellow students to
urge the monsters who had poisoned their country
to go fuck themselves?
who will be the fourth to cease to cower
to risk his or her seat in the sacred hall
not so long ago desecrated
by the lunatic king’s army of mouthbreathing cretins
and instead bathe in glory?
who will be smart enough to perceive
that the door to heroism will shut soon
that after the fourth comes forth
may very well come the stampede?

The poem is apropos for our time. Sophie Scholl remains one of my heroes.
Sadly, I do not see ANY ReThuglican with integrity. They should all be able to see that Trump & Co have gone WAY beyond the Constitution and the law, but they will not lift a finger to stop him. That beautiful phrase from Voltaire's Candide comes to mind: *Che sciagura ad essere senza coglioni* (What a shame to be without balls)!
