In This Moment of Monsters
The rich do what amuses them. The poor do what they must:
fight to the death for coins they find in the toxic dust
Camels can’t pass through needles’ eyes
If their lips are moving lies are being told
— big ones, king-size!
in this moment of monsters
The very worst among has ascended to the throne
Decency, appalled, sighs, “Suck it up. You’re on your own.”
The chips are down, their motives clear
The cost of justice is too dear
Your jury lacks a single peer
in this moment of monsters
They sneer at the law. No one foresaw
the gullible, consumed by rage, shitting on the sacred page
in this moment of monsters
The jury’s out. The fix is in.
Your jaw will drop. Your head will spin.
Playing by the rules you’ll never win
in this moment of monsters
Bonus track. From my 2009 album Sorry We’re Open. “Xenophobia”
Thanks for sharing this painfully relevant song with us! I should append that you have a very pleasant baritone voice.
